Description:
“Living on a single level was an important part of the brief for the family of this project. With a site rising up significantly towards the rear this presented challenges. A few internal steps rose up into the extension with a strong break in the building defining new from old. Water featured heavily in the design outcome with a fish pond traversing the site in the core of the house and an elevated wet edge pool eliminating the requirement of extensive pool fencing.
Formal rooms gave way to bedrooms and bathrooms in the Victorian part of the house and new open plan, light filled living spaces connected to the rear courtyard and pool. Limestone and Oak floors defined level changes and black metal cladding provided a bold external aesthetic with an extremely low maintenance regime. A double carport using the same architectural language as the house doubled as a pool house with shade.
All of this is completely invisible from McCracken Street which simply presents as a restored, detached, double fronted Victorian home.”
