Pain in the lower back, which is manifested through the hip, down to the back of the leg, and in some cases affecting the foot and toes, is known as sciatica. Very often it occurs only on one side of the body.
The most common symptoms of the appearance of sciatica
The main symptom is a great pain that is accompanied by a feeling of numbness, weakness, stiffness and rigidity.
The position of the body can affect the intensity of pain. When the body is upright, the pain is the greatest, when walking, kneeling or bending at the waist. Well, when lying down, the pain partially decreases or disappears completely. 
Causes:
Piriformis syndrome, the internal centerpiece of the disc, degeneration of the disc in the lumbar area, infection, pregnancy, Spondylolisthesis.

Here are some methods to treat sciatica:

  • McKenzie exercises.Always consult physiotherapists and chiropractors before doing the exercises!
  • Chiropractic care and physiotherapy. Consult with your physiotherapist or chiropractor for the best way of treatment. By promoting motion which relieves the pain, chiropractors and physiotherapists can relief sciatica pain. You can also try relieving it with ultrasound, Electrotherapy, joint mobilization, various exercises or soft tissue therapies.
  • Heat\Ice therapy. Heat or ice pack application can reduce the inflammation and pain.
  • Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is a very efficient way to treat the sciatica symptoms. The tiny needles are put at specific points in the meridian channels. This causes micro-trauma to the muscles and leads to increased release of endorphin which calms the nerves.
  • Decompression and lumbar spine traction therapy. It is a traction therapy spreading the lumbar vertebrae and allowing the disk material to re-absorb in the outer disk material. This therapy is recommended if the pain doesn’t subside for a longer period.
  • Physical activity. It is best to consult with your doctor about physical activity, due to the degree of severity of the disease. While you have severe pain, it is not good to have strenuous physical activity. But when it passes, i.e. the pain reduces, YOU NEED TO DO SPORTS!
