GNU Linux-libre Kernel 4.1 Officially Released, Be Free
GNU Linux-libre 4.1 kernel is now available for download
Immediately after the release of the Linux kernel 4.1 by Linus Torvalds on June 22, Alexandre Oliva had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability of GNU Linux-libre 4.1.
Therefore, we can report today that the final version of GNU Linux-libre 4.1 is now available for download and it's not so different from the last RC (Release Candidate) version, with the exception of the fact that a patch for recent freed-ora builds has been injected in the last minute and two drivers have been updated.
"GNU Linux-libre 4.1-gnu sources and tarballs are now available at http://linuxlibre.org/pub/linux-libre/releases/4.1-gnu," says Alexandre Oliva. "Two new drivers needed cleaning up of blob-requesting-and-loading machinery. Various others needed deblobbing updates due to blob name changes, false positives and some minor reorganization of the tree."
For those of you who are not in the loop, we remind you that the GNU Linux-libre project has been created to provide a 100% free version of the upstream Linux kernel, which might be suitable for use within the GNU Operating System, as well as in GNU/Linux-libre system distributions. All users need to update as soon as possible
As with every new release of a major GNU Linux-libre kernel, all users are urged to upgrade to the recent version as soon as possible, or more precisely, as soon as the packages arrive in the software repositories of their GNU/Linux distributions. GNU/Linux vendors and advanced users can now download the latest GNU Linux-libre 4.1 kernel right now from the project's website and compile it themselves.
