Red meat triggers toxic immune reaction which causes cancer, scientists find
100 calories of steak = 8.8 grams of protein, 100 calories of spinach = 12.4 grams of protein, 100 calories of broccoli = 11.1 g of protein :)
Being vegan is good for you and the planet (less resources), you can even get B12 from vegan sources, but it's harder, so to be safe you can just take a multi vitamin pill every 1-3 days or so - so a few dollars per year. Make sure the vitamin brand you choose (like the "One a Day" brand from Bayer for example) has no Aluminum lake colors or any kind of artificial colors known to have bad side effects. This lack of Yellow 3, Blue 4 and other Poisons makes the vitamin pill look unaesthetic with a boring color, but it's much healthier.
Vegetarians were shown to live several years longer than non-vegetarians. Mahatma Gandhi was vegetarian, just like 500 million people in India today and Albert Einstein, Leonardo DaVinci, Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, Pythagoras. World Peace comes easier with no meat eating. Did you know India is the most vegetarian country in the world? :) RED MEAT CAUSES CANCER ►http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/11316316/Red-meat-triggers-toxic-immune-reaction-which-causes-cancer-scientists-find.html.
MORE INFO ON ADVANTAGES OF AVOIDING MEAT
Until we can live on energy, as Nikola Tesla was saying we will one day, practicing compassion for animals is noble - at least so they get a decent life in the farms + a painless death. When animals suffer for seconds/minutes during the sudden slaughter death, they release stress-fear hormones that make us more violent, that age and sicken us: goo.gl/yxY4h. fear hormones also prompt us into human-human conflict more often; we and animals share a lot of hormonal pathways, as neuroscience shows. Bill Clinton is vegan (goo.gl/0NjdS) and so are some CEOs (http://goo.gl/7laCI). Gandhi, Tesla, Edison, Einstein, Newton, DaVinci were vegetarian: goo.gl/IMJQJ. Here is a doctor (I talked to him) who did surgeries at 95: http://goo.gl/MQqn3, after decades of being vegan.
“Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.” Einstein On a similar note he stated, “Our task must be to [widen] our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” And on the day he became a vegetarian, Einstein wrote in his diary, “So I am living without fats, without meat, without fish, but am feeling quite well this way. It always seems to me that man was not born to be a carnivore.”
Thomas Edison (1847-1931), the greatest inventor in history and also a vegetarian wrote “[Vegetarianism has a] powerful influence upon the mind and its action, as well as upon the health and vigor of the body. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.”
Sir Isacc Newton, “the father of physics,” and Leonardo Da Vinci, a part-time physicist who made major discoveries in hydraulics, optics and mechanics were both vegetarians. In fact, Da Vinci was so fervent about vegetarianism that he would buy caged chickens and set them free. In addition, Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920), considered the greatest mathematician of the last 1000 years, was also vegetarian.
Regarding the physical and moral benefits of vegetarianism, Tesla wrote: "On general principles the raising of cattle as a means of providing food is objectionable. It is certainly preferable to raise vegetables, and I think, therefore, that vegetarianism is a commendable departure from the established barbarian habit. That we can subsist on plant food and perform our work even to advantage is not a theory but a well-demonstrated fact. Many races living almost exclusively on vegetables are of superior physique and strength. There is no doubt that some plant food, such as oatmeal, is more economical than meat, and superior to it in regard to both mechanical and mental performance. Such food, moreover, taxes our digestive organs decidedly less, and in making us more contented and sociable, produces an amount of good difficult to estimate. In view of these facts every effort should be made to stop the wanton, cruel slaughter of animals, which must be destructive to our morals."
Here are arguments that convinced me/others to be vegetarian and later vegan. Studies show vegetarians live several years longer.

MORE INFO ABOUT LIVING WITHOUT EATING IN THE FAR FUTURE
We will live on energy as Nikola Tesla predicted, without eating. From nitrogen in air and/or dust and/or water we will make all food we need to build material body and live without eating eventually. Food or water, food or dust, food or air are the same quarks rearranged, same protons, neutrons rearranged. We'll get nutrients provided directly to cells, and waste chemicals recycled by nanobots so we don't eat. We can add some coherent biophotons and other things that keep us young and we mimic natural fruits and veggies totally. In due time we will understand more about foods and what they have that keep us young. A cell is like a small chemical factory with 100, 000 chemical reactions each second. We will discover how trillions of cells work together and what biophotons, etc in foods facilitate that communication :)
The first transition era step will be creating foods that come from individual nutrients. So we will jump from vegetarian-carnivore to eating mixes of individual compounds no longer needing to kill animals or plants.
With the chemistry advances it will be possible to get chemical nutrition in a simple shake that has all things you need, just drink it 2 times a day. We won't grow plants for food eventually, but make all individual compounds we need, essential nutrients, mix them and create flavored mixes, drinks, cakes, etc that are the "food".
We will make individual compound synthesis so cheap for aminoacids, etc that it will be easier to eat aminoacids only no proteins anymore. That way, we spend less energy breaking proteins into aminoacids in our digestive system.
It is really wasteful to spend hours a day shopping, cooking, thinking about food when you can just order a powder thrice a year and mix it with water and drink it. This will give birth to a smart intellectual kind non-violent society, provided we focus on peace and compassion. :)
Agriculture will become obsolete. We will have shimmering gardens with flowers and levitating craft, not farms where we torture plants and animals. Shimmering buildings, etc Technology can eliminate brutality against animals :) and plants and the slavery of working endlessly to raise some plants and animals... Science can make us evolved refined Immortals who live without eating and the torture it implies with the bathroom, digestion, digestive system diseases, etc..
