Ode
to Peace
For
the truth, for the laughter, for the light, for the beauty,
For
birds that fly in the eyes of a child,
By
the cleansing of the wind, by the acts of purity,
For
the joy, for the wine, for the music, for the dance,
By
the soft melody of the rumor of the streams,
By
the glow of the summer, by the blue of the clear day,
For
the flowers that enamel the fields, for the peace of the pastures,
For
the accuracy of the roses, for the wisdom,
For
the pearls that drip from the eyes of lovers,
For
the wonders that are true in dreams,
For
love, for freedom, for radiant things,
By
the ripe aromas of soft autumns,
For
the future morning of the big transparent,
By
the maternal and fertile bowels of the earth,
By
the tears of the mothers whom bloody clouds
They
rapture their children to the filthiness of war,
I
conjure you, O peace, I invoke you, O benign,
O
Holy One, O talisman against fierce industry.
With
your hands waving the flags of wrath,
With
your hide from the bomb and the tormentor,
Open
the doors of history,
let
Life pass!
