The Alcobaça Monastery is an impressive Medieval Roman Catholic monastery located in the town of Alcobaça. The church and monastery were one of the first Gothic buildings and one of the most important medieval monasteries in Portugal. Due to its artistic-historical importance and monumental beauty, the Alcobaça Monastery warranted its inscription in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1989.
