Utterly silent the sangha........

Utterly silent the sangha,
free of dullness
and drowsiness.
at the Judas tree grove …
at Nalakapana..
Blessed One turns to the amazing Sariputta
"My back is aching, so I will stretch it"
"speak to the congregation"
monks are still alert,
Wandering on tour,
the Blessed One was worn out,
he had already addressed them at length...
he retreats into restfulness.
Sariputta addresses
the gathering of monks...
"Friends one who does not have faith in cultivating good things,
or does not care to do this,
one with no moral shame,
with no moral dread,
it leads to hypocrisy unknowingly;"
"One who does not have energy,
who does not have wisdom,
who does not retain the good teachings
mentally, and examine the meaning of the good words;"
"One who does not lend an ear,
who does not time and again retrieve the good,
this is a downfall,
good things do not thrive there"
"Just as during the dark fortnight,
whether night or day comes the moon gets to be less in beauty and less in circumference,
hence,
less wholesome"
This is what the amazing Sariputta said to the gathering while their teacher laid on his right side in lion's posture,
with one foot overlapping the other,
a mindful restfulness...
surrounded him.
